Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. Soon, her talents became apparent and she was accepted to Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. The school was where she got to know Jutta Muller in this school. Witt achieved her breakthrough when she was ranked second at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. From that moment on the elegance and grace of her skating attracted the attention of everyone. She began to dominate this sport. Olympic victory At Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's gold medal for figure skating in an intense contest. The victory she won four years earlier was a bit more tense. The free skater lost however, she took home the gold medal for her figures that were compulsory and her short programme. Witt was the only female ever since Sonja Haenie to win an apex figure skater. Hall of Fame Witt had a great deal of success as an acting career, but she returned to figure skating to participate in her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted fans despite not winning a medal. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
